Classroom Adaptations
Without the use of technology small changes can be made to help support students' development of writing skills. Simple changes such as highlighting or framing sections of a worksheet, having students write on every other line to increase legibility, adjusting the size of letters and words displayed or demonstrated within a lesson or class, and allowing more time and shorter answers to assignments.

*Click the picture above for a video of another example of high tech assistive technology for writing.
*Specifically for the different steps or stages of the writing process there are different assistive technology choices that may help support each stage, from prewriting to publishing, below are several examples of AT.
Stages of writingPrewriting is the stage of identifying a topic and organizing ideas.
Drafting is the first stage of actually beginning to write out ideas in complete sentences or paragraphs. Revising is the stage of writing to evaluate, add, and expand ideas and word choice to make writing more clear or interesting. Editing is the stage to correct mistakes in spelling, grammar, ideas, etc. Publishing is the stage completing the writing process and expanding it into a form of communication with others. |
